OAK WOOD

AN ETERNAL WOOD AT THE BASE OF OUR PHILOSOPHY

Durmast or oak wood called Quercus petreae, belongs to the oak’s family. It grows in central and north-eastern Europe. In Italy it can be found from the sea to 1300-m above the sea level, but it is widespread especially in the Pre-alpine and Alpine valleys (300-1100m), in the Apennines and in some areas of the Po Valley.

WE BELIEVE IN THE MADE IN ITALY

AND IN THE VALUE OF QUALITY

A noble and unique material

Durmast oak is a majestic plant, with a tall trunk, sturdy but slender at the same time, with the ramification concentrated only on the upper part.

These characteristics are perfect for the wood industry and more precisely for the one of high-quality furniture. The ductility of this wood permits its use also in the construction industry, to produce trass, parquet, in the shipyards and in the construction of barrels for fine wines.

Both the natural shape of the tree trunk and its natural colour variations are preserved.

The durmast wood we choose comes only from Europe and from forests managed according to sustainable criteria, which observe the strict environmental standards of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®)

Durmast wood is one of the finest types of wood and at the same time one of the most functioning. Its qualities are above average. It is a stable and a long-lasting wood which resists aging and the attacks of vegetal parasites, such as mildews and fungus, moreover it is quite hard even if it can be easily processed and then it also easily returns to its original shape.

The characteristics of durmast wood furniture improve after an opportune period of maturation. It has a particularly strong resistance to humidity, bad weather and to sudden and continual climate changes. Furthermore, its resistance to external stresses and impacts is noteworthy. Not easy to break, it withstands also changes in pressure and bending and it is hard to scratch. Every durmast furniture industry has developed its own colouring treatments and various finishes to meet the needs of the mode and furniture design. Durmast wood can be whitened, brushed, or simply painted with many different types of colours.
