CARE AND MAINTENANCE

WOOD TOPS

It is advisable to clean wooden surfaces as soon as possible because the risk of rings and stains forming, as well as damage to the surfaces, increases remarkably if spills and grime are left to dry and become absorbed by the wood. Cooking fats and deeply coloured substances (such as coffee, cola, wine, vinegar, tomato juice etc.) must be handled with particular care. Wood must be cleaned using a rag moistened in just water or to which a neutral liquid detergent (10% solution) can be added. Rinse and then dry in the direction of the grain.

MAINTEINANCE OF WOOD TOPS

Always dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning it. It is important to prevent liquid spills from staying on surfaces for a long time. Wipe them up as soon as possible. As time goes by, stagnant water beacomes absorbed by the cavities of the wood, increasing its humidity, and altering its surface. Beware of placing the tops of aggressive detergents (limescale removers, acids, degreasers, bleach, solvents, trichloroethylene, acetone, alcohol, etc.) or rags dipped into them on wooden surfaces. Avoid using any abrasive substance that may damage the surface.

Matt surfaces, as those of our furniture, must never be treated with furniture wax or polish. Solid wood is very light-sensitive; placing it near natural light sources may jeopardise its colour stability and can make it change shade. (Often, the colour of table extension leaves differs from that of the table because the former are hidden away from the sunlight while the table is normally invested by it). Considerable differences in air temperature and humidity may cause clefts, warping and hairline cracks.

WARNINGS

It is unadvisable to use solid wood surfaces as kitchen worktops because constant contact with very damp places or high temperatures may deform these tops, create cracks and even break them. Solid wood tops installed on surfaces that limit their ventilation must be fastened in various places; even the partial limitation of ventilation of one or both sides of the top will jeopardise its stability and favour warping. We advise against using solid wood tops as kitchen worktops because they are in constant contact with lots of humidity and sources of strong heat. It is important to prevent liquid spills from staying on surfaces for a long time. Wipe them up as soon as possible. As time goes by, stagnant water becomes absorbed by the cavities in the wood, increasing its humidity and altering its surface. Avoid dragging objects such as dishware, pots and pans, knives, and hard objects in general directly over the top. Use a chopping board to chop food as well as pot stands, place mats and coasters.
